Variety reveals that Lightning McQueen and company will take centre stage in a Cars 3 video game later this year. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is developing and publishing the title under a pact with Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media. Avalanche Software is developing it, and what you may now know is that they were actually acquired by Warner Bros. from Disney last year.

As you may recall, they were closed down by Disney after Disney Infinity was shut down, so they have plenty of experience with this world and seem well-suited to adapt the beloved Pixar property.

Avalanche's John Blackburn is taking the lead here, and the studio's Octane development engine is being used. Brian Fee, a storyboard artist on the first two Cars movies is directing, so it has a pretty impressive line-up of talent involved! The movie is set to be released on June 16th, later this year, and while a release date for the game has not been revealed, it's definitely coming in 2017. Thoughts?
