Almost four years since the game originally released, God of War has finally come to PC!
The 2018 Game of the Year winner was a PlayStation-exclusive until today; the sequel was announced back in September 2020 and we got our first look at God of War Ragnarok a year later with the arrival of the reveal trailer (which you can check out below).
Speaking to Game Informer about the PC release for God of War, the game's director considered the possibility of its sequel also coming to the platform. Asked whether a PC release is planned for God of War Ragnarok, Cory Barlog said: "I have no idea."
The creative director of Santa Monica Studio explained that their focus at the moment is ensuring the quality of God of War for PC (as well as God of War Ragnarok for PlayStation 4 and 5). "Right now, we're taking it one game at a time, kind of looking at each one and determining, 'Okay, is this the best thing?' And we'll gauge how it does. Do people enjoy it? Did we do it right? Is there anything we did wrong? What can we do better in the future if we do this again?"
It seems Santa Monica Studio are using the PC release of the first game to gauge whether the same treatment for the sequel would be the way to go. Though Barlog did conclude by affirming that the choice really isn't up to them regardless. "But at the end of the day, ultimately, it's Sony's decision."
