Remastering DEMON’S SOULS Is Not Something FromSoftware President Is Currently Interested In

According to Demon’s Souls Director Hidetaka Miyazaki, FromSoftware has no current plans to remaster the critically acclaimed 2009 title, but he wouldn't be opposed to having another studio work on it...

Considering that the remastered version of 2011's Dark Souls launched last year on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, many players have been wondering if FromSoftware has any plans to build a reimagined version of their first Souls-like (and at this point – classic) game – Demon's Souls.

In a recent interview with Game Informer, the game's director and From president Hidetaka Miyazaki revealed that the studio is focusing on finishing Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and developing their two yet unannounced projects, while reviving Demon's Souls is not their top priority. “It’s like when you write – when you’re younger, you look back on [previous work] and you think ‘Oh, goodness what was I thinking,’” he said. “It’s not that I’m embarrassed, I just don’t like to look at my previous works.”

The fact that Demon's Souls was a PlayStation 3 exclusive would also complicate the situation as Sony would have to sign off on the possible remaster as well. “You’d have to see what they’re thinking about it,” Miyazaki added. While the director is not personally interested in remaking or remastering the first Souls, he wouldn’t be opposed to having another game development studio work on it.

If it was a studio that really loved the original work and really put their heart and soul into realizing it again, then that’s something I would enjoy,” Miyazaki continued. “But it’s really complicated because I have these fond memories. Thinking about the idea of a remaster gives me kind of butterflies in my stomach and makes me a little nervous, so it’s complicated. But I understand there are many users and many players and fans out there who really love Demon’s, so if that’s something they could accomplish with a studio that loved the work, then yeah, I’d be okay with that.”

The game's online component has been officially shut down in February and there's no denying that many fans of From's breakout hit would definitely welcome a Demon's Souls remaster with open arms.

Beautiful, compelling, and at times unforgiving, Demon's Souls is the hardcore RPG experience PS3 owners have been waiting for since the platform's launch. Revolutionary online features define your adventure like never before, presenting seamless interconnectivity that serves in every instance to enhance the single-player game. Unprecedented in its depth and subtlety, peerless in its relentlessly challenging gameplay, Demon's Souls is the ultimate action RPG.

Demon’s Souls was published in Japan in February 2009, in North America in October 2009, and in Australia and Europe in June 2010.
