Sonic the Hedgehog is now in theatres. The live-action video game movie released on February 14th and stars Ben Schwartz as the titular speedster, Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, and James Marsden as Tom Wachowski.
Warning: SPOILERS for Sonic the Hedgehog beyond this point!
Prior to the movie's release, it was confirmed that it would feature two post-credits scenes. Now that the movie has released, we know exactly what they contain.
The first post-credits scene actually plays directly before the credits themselves but after the movie's title-card — which curiously also featured at the beginning of the film. This bonus scene reveals the fate of Dr. Robotnik following his defeat at the hands of Sonic the Hedgehog and Donut Lord (A.K.A. Tom Wachowski).
The dastardly antagonist is alive and stranded on the mushroom-infested world that Sonic showed much disdain for throughout the movie. He carries some pieces of his broken aircraft in a backpack, a quill of Sonic's in his hand, and has fashioned a rock into a face for company — akin to Wilson from the movie
Castaway.
Following a bit of pixelated credits, the second post-credits scene plays. This one takes place on Earth and sees a portal swell and emerge before a silohuette steps forth and jumps through. It's Tails! The popular and iconic
Sonic the Hedgehog character wields some sort of scanner and yabbers about finally having found Sonic. Then he speeds off — leaving a trail behind him just like Sonic would.
Suffice it to say, these post-credits scenes are pretty clearly teasing a sequel to the live-action movie that preceded them — and we can't wait!
Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
