We have some great news for fans of the Beyond Good and Evil series, as Netflix and Ubisoft have recently announced that a movie is currently being produced, although the project is still in very early stages of development, so not much information has been revealed yet.
What has been confirmed, however, is that this Beyond Good and Evil movie has been described by Netflix and Ubisoft as a live-action/animated hybrid, and that the film will be directed by Detective Pikachu and Goosebumps Director Rob Letterman.
Jason Altman and Margaret Boykin have been revealed to be producing Beyond Good and Evil for Ubisoft Film & Television. Since the project is still in early stages of development, Ubisoft and Netflix are still looking for writers to adapt Beyond Good and Evil.
Detective Pikachu was a fairly serviceable adaptation of a popular video game series — even when it is considered to be a little bit of a safe card — but Rob Letterman did a pretty great job adapting the Nintendo 3DS game, so it will be interesting to see what he does with the Beyond Good and Evil movie.
What's interesting is that the movie is described as a hybrid film that will be featuring both live-action and animation. Do they mean CGI? Will it feature proper hand-drawn animation? Unfortunately the information doesn't specify this, and is curious that they had to call it a hybrid to begin with.
