Detective Pikachu arrived in theatres on May 10th. After a successful stay in theatres, it's home release is right around the corner. If you either fell in love with the film whilst it was in theatres or are waiting until its home release to check it out; you're now able to pre-order various home release versions of the live-action
Pokemon film.
We don't yet have an exact release date for the home release but it will likely take place in August.
Detective Pikachu will be released digitally, on DVD, Blu-Ray, and UHD/4K. All of these versions are now available to be pre-ordered (via
Gamespot). There will also be a steelbook version released. The cost of the various versions ranges from $20 to $35 at various retailers.
As well as the actual release date, we're pretty much in the dark in terms of special features as well. There's something called
"Detective Mode" that will be included but we aren't exactly sure what that entails.
It'll presumably be some kind of overlay that you can activate that will appear over the actual film and offer featurettes at relevant times. For example, if a bulbasoar walks on screen, a prompt would pop up which will take you to a video of a VFX artist talking about how they brought that particular Pokemon to life.
Ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son, Tim, to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry's former Pokémon partner, wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth Detective Pikachu. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to work together, as Tim is the only human who can talk with Pikachu, they join forces to unravel the tangled mystery.
