A month ago, the man behind Super Mario Bros. himself, Shigeru Miyamoto made waves when he announced the cast of the upcoming animated Mario movie.
You'll surely have heard by now as the news truly broke the internet but just in case you haven't, the cast of the Mario movie is as follows: Chris Pratt (Avengers: Endgame) will star as the titular Nintendo hero, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen's Gambit) will play Princess Peach, Charlie Day (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) will play Luigi, and Jack Black (Jumanji: The Next Level) will play Bowser, among others.
Amongst the others, Seth Rogen will play the role of Donkey Kong in the Mario animated movie that's in the works at Illumination. Rogen is best known for comedies such as Neighbors, This is the End, Superbad, and more recently An American Pickle. Additionally, it was announced that Fred Armisen will play the role of Cranky Kong. Armisen recently featured in another animated movie, that being Netflix's The Mitchells vs. The Machines.
Well, according to the site named Giant Freakin Robot, Seth Rogen's Donkey Kong will be the star of his own movie. The upcoming Mario movie hasn't even released yet, it's set to in December 2022, and yet apparently Nintendo and Illumination are already developing a spinoff focused on the most iconic gorilla in gaming. The site's source was unable to provide any additional details, such as whether any of the Mario movie cast will carry over, but it is presumed that Armisen will reprise his role.
Of course, take this scoop with a grain of salt. We can only take Giant Freakin Robot's word for its legitimacy. Though, the site does have a catalogue of proven scoops which you can verify for yourself here.
