For a while now, we've known that an animated
Mortal Kombat movie is in the works — separate from the live-action
Mortal Kombat movie that's in the midst of production. However, all important details on the video game movie were only revealed a week ago.
Based on the popular video game series of the same name; the voice cast includes the likes of Joel McHale (
Community) and Jennifer Carpenter (
Dexter) — those two will play Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade respectively. Ethan Spaulding (
Batman: Assault on Arkham) directs a script by Jeremy Adams (
Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans). Jim Krieg and Rick Morales produce.
Following the announcement of exciting details about
Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge, series creator Ed Boon took to social media to tease that the animated movie will be just as brutal as the games that it's based on —
more on that here.
Boon took to Twitter even more recently to back that statement up with confirmation that
Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge will be rated R. The game director referenced other R rated films as well as outright included the "Restricted" symbol on the animated film's official logo. You can check out his tweet below (via
