Sonic the Hedgehog races into theatres on February 14th. While seeing the iconic video game character's theatrical debut is certainly enough of a draw as it is; there's no doubt that many will be buying their tickets to see Jim Carrey return to playing an absolutely bonkers character — like those that he's known for such as the Mask, the Grinch, and the Riddler.
Just the other day, Carrey recalled playing the Riddler and noted that the characters of Dr. Robotnik and Edward Nigma aren't unlike each other —
more on that here. In an even more recent interview, Carrey made it clear that he wouldn't mind returning to play Dr. Robotnik in a sequel to the upcoming, live-action
Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
Speaking to
Jake Hamilton, the actor admitted that starring in the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie was simply a lot of fun.
"I wouldn’t mind going to do another one because it was so much fun, first of all, and a real challenge to try to convince people that I have a triple-digit IQ... There is so much room, you know, Robotnik has not reached his apotheosis."
While you might consider this obvious — an actor wants more acting gigs — it's particularly interesting as Carrey isn't usually up for returning to roles in sequels. He must've really had a great time bringing the iconic video game character to life if he's legitimately down to play him again. Hopefully the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie does well enough to warrant a follow-up.
