Sonic the Hedgehog races into theatres in just over a week's time. The upcoming, live-action movie is based on the popular video game series and character of the same name. Ben Schwartz serves as the voice of the titular speedster while Jim Carrey plays Dr. Robotnik. Jeff Fowler directs and the cast also includes James Marsden and Tika Sumpter.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe may not have invented the concept of a post-credits scene but it certainly popularised it — to the point that audiences now go into movies expecting there to be one — but will
Sonic the Hedgehog include one?
If you're unfamiliar with the idea of a post-credits scene, they're basically a brief clip that plays during or after the credits of a movie. They often include a joke of some kind more likely a tease for a sequel. It seems that
Sonic the Hedgehog might feature both of those.
The video game movie reportedly includes a total of two post-credits scenes (via
Azul 35). One plays in the midst of the credits and another comes shortly afterwards — about one of two minutes afterwards, that is. This information comes courtesy of someone who attended the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie's premiere. For what it's worth, they also said that they enjoyed the movie.
As for what these post-credits scene will include, one can only imagine that a sequel will be teased perhaps with an appearance by one or a couple of Sonic's friends — like Tails, Knuckles, or Amy. Here's hoping for something along those lines.
Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
