Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution is the 22nd
Pokémon animated film to date. It was directed by Kunihiko Yuyama and Motonori Sakakibara and initially released exclusively in Japan back in July 2019. On February 27th, it will be coming to Netflix in the West —
and a manga adaptation will be coming out in June.
Plenty of these animated
Pokémon movies have found themselves available in the United States and able to be streamed via the Netflix streaming service. However, it seems that
Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution is going to be the first to offer a the Japanese dub. Previously, the
Pokémon movies have only been available to stream in English.
A Twitter user by the handle of
@FelipoDepot spotted that Netflix allows you to change both the audio and subtitles to Japanese when streaming the trailer for
Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution. This suggests that the full movie itself will feature the same option.
This would certainly be a nice improvement as fans will be able to watch the movie exactly as the creators intended — in Japanese. Here's hoping it turns out the be the case. You can check out the tweet in question below along with an accompanying screenshot to back the speculation.
