Nobody actually expected
Rampage to compete with
Avengers: Infinity War at the box office, so when Disney moved its superhero blockbuster up from May 4 to April 27 - just one week after the theatrical debut of Warner Bros. video game adaptation - it came as no surprise that
Warner Bros. reacted by shifting its own film up one week.
Rampage is now set to release worldwide on April 13, a move that will allow the film to maintain its two week cushion.
Warner Bros. never flat out said
Avengers: Infinity War was the motivation behind the change of date, but everyone already knows - including
Rampage star Dwayne Johnson who took to Instagram to announce the new April 13 release date and touch upon the box office competition that is
Avengers: Infinity War.
"Of course it had nothing to do with Tony Stark and his Avenger gang moving their release date up a week 😉" Johnson wrote alongside the video in which he claimed the real motivation behind the move was to avoid
"giving away any of our spoilers."
"These movie release dates are always a chess game, and in the end I want EVERYONE playing to win," he added in a message.
"And now that we’ve moved to April 13th, it pretty much guarantees that I’ll be home for the birth of my baby daughter - so thank you Mr. Stark. We all win. And if you Avengers ever wanna have a lil’ fun and Rumble... you know where to find me."
