Raf Grassetti served as the Art Director for Santa Monica Studio's acclaimed
God of War video game — that released back in 2018 and is regarded as Game of the Year. As of late, Grassetti has been converting many popular Nintendo characters into a more realistic style than we're used to seeing them in.
For instance, the most recent Nintendo franchise to get the Grassetti-treatment was
Star Fox —
more on that here. Grassetti has made photorealistic versions of Fox, his squadmates, and his nemesis — Wolf. This stunning piece of artwork went pretty viral and got the attention of
Gary Whitta.
Whitta is best known for coming up with the story for
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story but began his career as a journalist and writer for video games — some notable titles that involved Whitta being
Prey,
Duke Nuken Forever, and
Gears of War. Suffice it to say, he's a fan of video games.
Well, Whitta quote-tweeted the aforementioned artwork with the declaration that he would love to write an animated movie based on it. Nintendo is open to allowing their many popular franchises to be turned into animated movies — what with an animated
Super Mario Bros. movie being officially in the work — so a
Star Fox movie could certainly be on the cards.
