Ryan Reynolds plays a video game NPC (non-player character) in the first official trailer for his upcoming Free Guy action-comedy. The cast also includes Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Joe Keery (Stranger Things), Lil Rey Howery (Get Out), Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Taika Waititi.

Originally a 20th Century Fox film, Free Guy is now under Disney's banner and the trailer makes sure to get that across with a slight at the expense of the recent live-action remakes of Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King. Reynolds' character Guy is shown to be a bank teller NPC who somehow gains sentience and decides to reinvent himself — as is explained in the official synopsis:

"'Free Guy,' a bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, decides to become the hero of his own story…one he rewrites himself. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way…before it is too late."

Shawn Levy directs a screenplay by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn. Free Guy is set to arrive in theatres on July 3rd, 2020. Check out the action-packed, new trailer and poster below (via ComicBookMovie.com):
