Sonic the Hedgehog is in theatres now! The live-action movie is based on the popular video game series of the same name and stars Ben Schwartz as the voice of the titular speedster as well as Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik and James Marsden as Tom Wachowski.
Back in December, a TV spot for the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie was released which mentioned Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
"Where am I? What year is it? Is The Rock president?" Sonic frantically questioned. Well, Johnson responded to this cameo by recalling that he used to play
Sonic the Hedgehog all the time when he was younger.
Director Jeff Fowler promptly took to social media to reach out to the actor and suggest that he could perhaps make a physical cameo appearance in the film —
find out more on that here. However, many fans thought that Johnson would be the perfect choice to serve as the voice, popular
Sonic the Hedgehog character, Knuckles.
Now the movie's out and Neil McDonough recently mentioned, during a questioning at FAN EXPO Vancouver (via
ComicBook.com), that he's heard Johnson might be in talks for
Sonic the Hedgehog 2. McDonough played a member of the US Army, particularly a Major that Dr. Robotnik dubs
"Major Nobody Cares."
"What I saw in the trailer, the first trailer, I thought it was fine," McDonough said at the convention.
"But what I saw in the movie was amazing." The actor then mentioned that he's anticipating a sequel;
"I’m looking forward to part two. Literally, part two, I’ve already heard rumblings that The Rock is going to be [in it]. The Rock is in part two of everything, by the way."
Was McDonough joking? Could he have perhaps been referring to the aforementioned Twitter interaction that went on back in December? May he have legitimately let the cat out of the bag? That's all up for interpretation. We'll just have to sit tight.
