Sonic the Hedgehog is a recent live-action movie based on the video games of the same name. Ben Schwartz serves as the voice of the blue blur himself while Jim Carrey and James Marsden play Dr. Robotnik and Tom Wachowski respectively. The latter actor recently revealed what he would like to see in a potential sequel — more on that here.
Basically, as well as more action set-pieces, Marsden wants the sequel to feature more beloved Sonic the Hedgehog characters such as Tails. Based on what director Jeff Fowler recently revealed (via Toonado), it seems that the actor's going to get what he wants.
Fowler explained that nothing makes him happier than seeing how audiences reacted to Tails popping up in the Sonic the Hedgehog movie's post-credits scene. What with that being just a small teaser, he's especially excited for Sonic and Tails to team-up properly in a sequel.
"Of all the screenings that I would pop in for, seeing people's reaction to Tails showing up at the end, nothing could have prepared me," Fowler explained. "To see people respond and having these kids just shout at the screen, and just yell their little brains out. I just never got sick of it."
"I just loved it. And the idea that we made this whole movie, and we didn't have a single scene of Sonic and Tails together. It's incredible, but it also is so exciting [for a sequel]."
While that's all good and exciting, Fowler did then go on to mention that Paramount Pictures hasn't yet actually greenlit a sequel to the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. He notes that it's probably because of the Coronavirus pandemic and, after it passes, a sequel will more than likely be confirmed.
Fingers crossed. If we're fortunate enough to do another movie, that we can finally get [Sonic and Tails] together and have some real fun, and really get to some of what is the next level of what people love about this world and these characters. Right now, it's just great that people are enjoying the movie and are now having an opportunity to watch it at home despite all this Corona craziness. That's enough for me. It's great that it's out there, and that people are enjoying it.
