Recently, Paramount Pictures released an exciting, new promo for the upcoming, live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie. While this brief promo did feature a little bit of new footage, the starring moment came as the titular speedster made reference to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Upon arriving on Earth, Sonic immediately asks, "Where am I? What year is it? Is The Rock president?" Following this, The Rock himself took to social media to comment on the namedrop: "So crazy I used to love playing Sonic in college. Many moons later this... life can be so damn wildly unpredictable and surrel at times." More on that here.

Even more recently than that, the director of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie took to Twitter to respond to Johnson's reaction. Jeff Fowler was clearly touched by the actor's tweet, so much so that he offered Johnson a cameo appearance in the upcoming film.

Johnson certainly gets around when it comes to movies. The actor often manages to star in three major films per year. For example, Jumanji: The Next Level recently opened in theatres. Sonic the Hedgehog could certainly be another to add to his repertoire. As well, it would certainly make for a funny gag if it turned out that The Rock was indeed the President within the film's universe.

Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

Sonic the Hedgehog speeds into theatres on February 14th, 2020.
