Paramount Pictures announced earlier today that the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie will be releasing on digital shopfronts earlier than anticipated. The decision was made on account of the Coronavirus pandemic — which has forced theatres in the U.S. to remain closed — as a means to prevent the virus from spreading.

As first reported by Variety, Paramount Pictures has said that the Sonic the Hedgehog movie will now be available on digital shopfronts on Tuesday the 31st of March, which is actually a short 46 days after the movie made its way into theatres.

With an impressive $146 millions domestically and $306 million wordlwide, the first live-action adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog has become quite the hit amongst general audiences, as well as long-time fans of Sega's Blue Blur; some, even, consider this to be the first great live-action adaptation of any video game ever, and the Box Office does seem to agree with that.

Sonic the Hedgehog is directed by Jeff Fowler, starring James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, and Ben Schwartz as the titular character; lending his voice to bring the iconic video game character to life

Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

Sonic the Hedgehog will release on digital on the 31st of March.
