Sonic the Hedgehog is an upcoming, live-action movie based on the iconic and popular video game franchise and character of the same name. Ben Schwartz stars as the titular speedster and Jim Carrey plays Dr. Robotnik. Jeff Fowler directs and the cast also includes James Marsden and Tika Sumpter.
Recently, it was discovered that the video game movie will introduce a new character to
Sonic the Hedgehog's canon. This character will reportedly be an owl by the name of Longclaw. While that name sounds pretty ominous,
Sonic Paradise reports that the character will accompany Sonic in his younger years.
The reputable source that is
Tails' Channel was able to follow up the initial report with seeming confirmation of the character's existence. The
Sonic the Hedgehog franchise features many anthropomorphic animal characters. However, Longclaw and Sonic are the only two that will feature in the film — as far as we're aware at the moment.
Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
Sonic the Hedgehog speeds into theatres on February 14th, 2020.
