Back in April, the first trailer for Paramount's
Sonic the Hedgehog movie was released and the backlash was immediate. Fans of the source material and general human beings alike were far from pleased with the titular character's pseudo-realistic, new look.
The trailer amassed hundreds of thousands of dislikes on YouTube and the film's director quickly announced that the film would be delayed so that they could redesign the character yet again. Fans could only hope that their second attempt would be less uncanny and more similar the the beloved character design that has Sonic has been rocking for almost thirty years now.
Well, the time has come. The moment of truth. Finally, now is the time to see what they've put together. A couple of seemingly official images have surfaced on Twitter (via
@BestInTheGalaxy) which show off Sonic's new look. We're happy to report that they've done it — they're pulled it off. It's not an exact replica of the design from the game's but it's certainly pretty close.
As for when we can expect to see it in motion with a redo of the film's first trailer, we're currently unaware. However, that doesn't matter right now as it's currently the time to simply be grateful that you'll never have to lay your eyes on Sonic's former cinematic look ever again.

Sonic the Hedgehog will now release in theatres on February 14th, 2019.
