In four days, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie will have been in theatres for a month's time. Based on the video game series of the same name; Ben Schwartz stars as the voice of the titular speedster, Jim Carrey plays Dr. Robotnik, and James Marsden plays Tom Wachowski.

Recently, director Jeff Fowler explained why the Sonic the Hedgehog movie doesn't feature additional characters such as Knuckles — the reason being that they wanted to first focus on establishing the rivalry between the blue blur and Dr. Robotnik. However, Fowler essentially promised that sequels would introduce such characters.

Well, a new report by We Got This Covered supposes that Paramount Pictures isn't only interested in having other fan-favourite Sonic the Hedgehog characters feature in a sequel but also giving them their very own movie. According to the site, a reputable source let them know that they're eyeing Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to play Knuckles.

What's more, they're considering a standalone Knuckles movie which would come after the sequel. It's said that this solo movie would explore the character's origins as the Sonic the Hedgehog sequel itself wouldn't go too deep into such things. This is certainly plausible given what we saw of Knuckles' species in the first instalment — find out here.

Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
