Sonic the Hedgehog is an upcoming, live-action movie from Paramount Pictures based on the iconic and popular video game franchise of the same name. Ben Schwartz stars as the voice of the titular, blue speedster while Jim Carrey plays the nefarious Dr. Robotnik. The cast also includes James Marsden and Tika Sumpter.
After a bumpy production, the video game movie will arrive in theatres in just over a month's time — specifically on February 14th. Recently, box office experts posited their "Long Range Tracking" predictions of just how much Sonic the Hedgehog will earn during its opening weekend.

The franchise has a long-standing fanbase that dates back to the early 90s and social media metrics have been increasingly positive after Paramount Pictures decided to take on board criticism of the protagonist's initial character design. As well, it's believed that Sonic the Hedgehog will draw in family audiences due to it's holiday weekend release three weeks prior to Pixar's
Onward.
However, the experts do make mention of the supposed "Video Game Movie Curse," wherein films based on video games don't tend to perform well at the box office nor critically. Though, they make note that positive word of mouth could work wonders for the film's performance at the box office — as was the case for
Detective Pikachu.
