Sonic the Hedgehog arrived in theatres ten days ago. The live-action movie is based on the popular video game series of the same name and stars Ben Schwartz as the voice of the titular character as well as Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, and Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski — while Jeff Fowler directs.

Suffice it to say, the movie exceeded expectations both in terms of its overall quality and its box office numbers. The live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie earned almost $60 million domestically during its opening alone and over $100 million on a worldwide scale — more on that here.

Sonic the Hedgehog has also managed to stay on top of box office charts for the second weekend in a row — since its release. Over the past couple of days, Sonic the Hedgehog made $26.3 million whereas Call of the Wild debuted to $24.8 million. That's close competition but the blue speedster won nonetheless.

By now, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie has made over $200 million at the worldwide box office. With the release of Blumhouse's Invisible Man reboot set to debut next weekend, it certainly calls into question whether the video game icon will still be able to hold onto the top spot. Below is a list of the highest grossing films (domestically) between February 21st and February 23rd:

Sonic the Hedgehog – $26.3M ($107M Overall)
The Call of the Wild – $24.8M (Debut)
Birds of Prey – $7M ($72.5M)
Brahms: The Boy II – $5.9M (Debut)
Bad Boys for Life – $5.86M ($191M)
1917 – $4.4M ($152M)
Fantasy Island – $4.2M ($20M)
Parasite – $3.1M ($49M)
Jumanji: The Next Level – $3M ($311M)
The Photograph – $2.8M ($17.6M)

Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
