Since 1994, video game company SNK has been entertaining its customers with one of the best 2D fighters of all time, The King of Fighters. With multiple titles released and characters appearing in other games like Super Smash Bros. and Tekken 7, there is always a possibility that anyone could be a KOF fan and have never realized it!
Aside from the world of gaming, the KOF franchise has also taken part in film and animation. Animation studio iDragon has been spearheading the charge of bringing the property to animation with a series in 2016 titled, The King of Fighters: Destiny. As of now, it has been confirmed that the series will be adding two more seasons, with both containing 24 episodes, with the show culminating in a film finale.
Recently, a brand new film has been announced, coming to China, titled The King of Fighters: Awaken. The new entirely CG film, which is aiming for a 2022 release, has a lot of speculation surrounding it, in regards to the plot, as all hints lead to the film covering the "NESTS arc" (which was covered in The King of Fighters '99 through The King of Fighters 2001). However, others have speculated that the film will be the finale of the Destiny animated series.
With no confirmation on the plot, fans can at least check out the new trailer that features Goenitz and Kyo Kusanagi battling it out. Make sure to check out the new trailer below, and don't forget to share your thoughts in the comments!
