The live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie certainly had one of the most unique productions, perhaps ever. Based on the popular video game series of the same name, Sonic the Hedgehog debuted in theatres back in February and stars Ben Schwartz as the voice of the titular speedster as well as James Marsden and Jim Carrey as Tom Wachowski and Dr. Robotnik.
Now available digitally, Sonic the Hedgehog stands as the highest-grossing video game movie of all time (in North America) — having surpassed Pokémon: Detective Pikachu. It therefore comes as no surprise that Paramount Pictures are apparently raring to officially announce a sequel — more on that here.
The newest entry in the, Emmy-nominated Screen Junkies video series, Honest Trailers is sure to point out the similarities between Sonic the Hedgehog and Pokémon: Detective Pikachu — in fact, it's their opening bit. However, that's not all they poke fun at but also the unusual production and incredibly overt product placement.
If you're unaware, Honest Trailers is a web series which parodies proper movie trailers and essentially says it how it is. "Epic Voice Guy," also known as Jon Bailey, narrates. With that being said, you can check out the Sonic the Hedgehog Honest Trailer below (via Toonado):
Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
Sonic the Hedgehog is now available digitally — Blu-ray and Ultra 4K HD release set for May 19th, 2020.
