According to a new report from Variety, Peter Sollett is now attached to Warner Bros. and Microsoft's Minecraft movie as its writer-director.

The cinematic-adaptation was delayed back in August as its previous director departed the project, but thankfully, it now appears to be back on track. Sollett will apparently helm the project with Vertigo's Roy Lee and Jon Berg still on as producers and Jon Spaiht as an executive producer.

Variety also mentioned some interesting details regarding the film's plot - and it seems that the iconic player-character of Steve won't be getting the limelight (therfore negating rumours that Steve Carrell would star). Though Steve won't be present, the Ender Dragon boss will along with a female-lead (perhaps, the recent addition to the game, Alex).

Based on the globally popular video game, the story follows a teenage girl and her unlikely group of adventurers who, after the malevolent Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction, must save their beautiful, blocky Overworld.

What do you think of Sollett joining the Minecraft movie? What are you thoughts on the plot details?

The Minecraft movie doesn't currently have a set release date.
