Sonic the Hedgehog arrives in theatres in just ten days. The upcoming, live-action movie is based on the video game series and character of the same name and stars Ben Schwartz, Jim Carrey, James Marsden, and Tika Sumpter. The former pair of those actors play Sonic the Hedgehog and Dr. Robotnik respectively. Jeff Fowler serves as director.
With Schwartz voicing the titular speedster in the movie, many naturally concoted questions like; is Ben Schwartz now the officially definitive voice of Sonic the Hedgehog? Will Ben Schwartz return to voice the character in the future — perhaps in a sequel? What about video games and cartoons?
Well,
ComicBook.com recently put those very questions to Schwartz himself. The actor said that there haven't been any official discussions on the matter but he would be thrilled if they asked him to reprise the role — specifically in a sequel to the upcoming video game movie.
"There has been, nobody's ever talked to me about that," Schwartz began.
For me, it's literally, let's do this, let's see how the movie does, and my hope is that we can do another one if people react the way that I hope they're gonna react for this one, but no, there hasn't been any conversation about anything else, because there's some, I mean, Roger Craig Smith's amazing. There have been some incredible voice actors that have done that role, but if they ask me to do another movie, man, I would be so thrilled.
Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
Sonic the Hedgehog races into theatres on February 14th, 2020.
