In what's being hailed as a "first-of-its-kind partnership" between Rockstar Games and Netflix, an extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI will debut on the streamer on August 27 at 3 pm ET.

It's not clear what led to this deal beyond what was likely a significant financial incentive. However, a press release mentions that Grand Theft Auto V was released the same year Netflix started "its push into original programming." It adds, "This collaboration represents the next generation of storytelling and content on Netflix."

In other words, it seems Netflix could become a home for future trailer debuts/extended sneak peeks, giving YouTube some serious competition.

Back to Grand Theft Auto VI, and we also have a new look at the game's leads, Jason and Lucia. They're clearly preparing to rob a bank, a staple of the franchise that will likely be a big part of this next instalment.

"Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right," Brandon Riegg, VP of Nonfiction Series, said today. "The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto VI is unprecedented, and we’re honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first."

"It’s a reflection of what we hope Netflix is becoming: a place where the most ambitious storytelling, from any medium, can find the biggest possible audience."

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will showcase one of the most anticipated releases in history, offering Netflix subscribers a chance to see more about the game that will define the next era of entertainment.

In the game, Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida – forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.

Launching November 19, later this year, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for $79.99, Grand Theft Auto VI features "a single-player experience set in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet."

The Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition amplifies the experience with an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia's story, and will be available for $99.99.
