Grand Theft Auto 6 is already performing at a scale few games ever reach, and it is still three months from launch. According to estimates from data firm Sensor Tower, the game has sold approximately 4.38 million pre-order copies, generating around $429 million in revenue so far.

Those figures cover only the period since pre-orders opened and do not include any day-one or post-launch sales. At an average of roughly $97 per copy, the numbers also support earlier comments from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick that the $100 Ultimate Edition is significantly outselling the standard $80 version. Many players appear willing to pay the premium for the extra content and bonuses after waiting more than a decade for a new mainline GTA.

The platform split shows a clear PlayStation lead. Sensor Tower’s analysis puts 77 percent of pre-orders on PS5 and the remaining 23 percent on Xbox Series X|S. While earlier reports had suggested an even steeper gap, the current ratio still leaves PlayStation with a substantial advantage in the early sales race.

The majority of these pre-orders were likely placed in the initial rush after they became available. Rockstar still has major marketing moments ahead that are expected to drive further spikes. The most significant is the Extended Look scheduled to premiere on Netflix on August 27, which will introduce the game to a much wider and more casual audience than the core gaming community that has followed every trailer and leak.

That broader exposure matters. GTA 5 has remained a cultural reference point for years, but a large number of potential players have never engaged deeply with the series beyond its reputation. The Netflix presentation offers Rockstar a rare opportunity to reach those viewers directly and convert interest into additional pre-orders, and in some cases into console purchases.

Even at this early stage, the pre-order performance places GTA 6 in rare company. Few titles generate hundreds of millions of dollars before they are released. The combination of long-term anticipation, aggressive pricing of premium editions, and a massive existing fanbase has created conditions for extraordinary numbers. How much higher those figures climb after the Extended Look and in the final months before the November 19 launch will determine just how historic the opening period becomes.

For now, the Sensor Tower estimates provide the clearest public snapshot of demand. 4.38 million copies and $429 million in revenue three months out signal that GTA 6 is not merely meeting expectations. It is already operating on a different commercial level from most of the industry.

Do you think GTA 6 will hit those estimates or go way beyond them? How many copies do you think it will sell? Let us know your answer in the comments.
