Respawn Entertainment will be introducing their own story to the Star Wars universe once
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order releases in November. They've enlistsed many talented writers to ensure that the singleplayer game lives up to expectations.
One of these writers recently did an interview with
VGC wherein he discussed both
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order's story as well as the issues he found with
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi.
Chris Avellone, an industry veteran (credited as a part of the following works:
Fallout 2,
Fallout New Vegas,
Baldurs Gate,
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, and more), teased in this interview that
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order's story will explore new and interesting themes whilst going in a very unusual direction. Though vague, it's still quite intriguing to hear.
The themes were established when I came onto Fallen Order. KoTOR 2 tells its own story and I feel like Fallen Order was an opportunity to explore new themes and go in a very unusual direction, because there is some stuff in there that I was not expecting. I think Fallen Order is going to offer a Star Wars experience, but there are also some interesting new perspectives that I think players will appreciate.
Remaining on the topic of Star Wars, Avellone made it clear that he isn't a massive fan of the latest entry in the film saga. Like many, Avellone mentioned that he found the film's portrayal of Luke Skywalker to be "very weak," and not a great fit for his character.
I thought that portrayal of Luke Skywalker was very weak. I thought they gave him a scapegoat role that wasn’t merited and didn’t fit with his character, in my opinion. I like the fact that they were playing around with it, but at the same time I didn’t like the execution and I thought it could have been handled a lot better or differently.
Luke wasn't the only problem that Avellone had with the film, however, as he further explained: "I also thought it was a case of comedy goes too far, side characters and massive detour plots were rapidly introduced… I liked what they were trying to do, I just didn’t like how it was executed."
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is set to release on November 15th for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
