Ubisoft and Netflix announced earlier this Tuesday that they are teaming up in order to produce a live-action series based on the critically acclaimed, and long-running Assassin's Creed franchise of video games.

According to the official announcement issued by Ubisoft and Netflix, the upcoming live-action Assassin's Creed series will be executive produced by Ubisoft Film & Television's Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinink, although a showrunner has yet to be hired.

Vice President of Original Series at Netflix, Peter Fiedlander expressed his excitement over this new project, stating that "We're excited to partner with Ubisoft and bring to life the rich, multilayered storytelling that Assassin's Creed is beloved for.

He then adds: "From its breathtaking historical worlds and massive global appeal as one of the best selling video game franchises of all time, we are committed to carefully crafting epic and thrilling entertainment based on this distinct IP and provide a deeper dive for fans and our members around the world to enjoy."

The first Assassin's Creed game was released in 2007 for consoles and PC, and it has since gotten quite a few sequels/prequels that have helped built its intriguing world; with Assassin's Creed Valhalla being the latest entry in this long-running series.

Since its inception, the franchise has already managed to sell well over a very impressive 155 million games, and was even given a live-action movie back in 2016, where Michael Fassbender played Callum "Cal" Lynch and his respective ancestor Aguilar de Nerha. Unfortunately, the Assassin's Creed movie was not well-received by fans nor critics.

Head of Ubisoft Film & Television Jason Altman's statment reads as follows:

"For more than 10 years, millions of fans around the world have helped shape the Assassin's Creed brand into an iconic franchise. We're thrilled to create an Assassin's Creed series with Netflix and we look forward to developing the next saga in the Assassin's Creed universe."

Since the project is in its verly early stages of develpopment, it may be a while before we get any news in regards to casting and potential release dates, but this is definitely exciting news for anyone who has been invested in the Assassin's Creed series; be it veteran players who have been since the beginning or newcomers who have found themselves becoming fans of this best-selling franchise.
