During Netflix's Geeked Week, the streamer revealed a new addition to its "Netflix Games" catalog based on one of the streamer's biggest franchises: Rebel Moon.
Developed by Super Evil Megacorp (Vainglory) in partnership with Netflix Games, Blood Line: A Rebel Moon is a co-op action game featuring a unique story set within the expansive universe of Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon franchise. Players will meet new characters and experience new stories created just for the game.
"It’s been a blast carving out our own space in the Rebel Moon universe and exploring themes of fellowship, betrayal, and — of course — rebellion," said executive producer Sam Hart.
Blood Line: A Rebel Moon is a mission-based top-down shooter that supports four-player co-op action. A trailer was shared alongside the announcement, showcasing the action-packed gameplay. But there's much more to it than just blasting your way through missions!
There are four different character classes filling the roles of tank, healer, and DPS. Each class has its own unique skills but you can customize your experience with things like your hero's appearance, gear, and progression. As a co-op game, you'll want to create a well-rounded team and work together to complete missions.
Gameplay will have the trademark Super Evil focus on combat and controls - intense, visceral, and frantic with both melee and ranged combat. Be warned - we have packed the maximum amount of danger and effects here to demonstrate the tyrannical Motherworld’s threat and power.
Blood Line: A Rebel Moon is being developed for mobile devices. No release date has been announced yet, although sign-ups have already opened up for a planned Beta have already opened up. We don't know when the beta will run exactly, but anyone who participates will unlock a unique skin for each class at launch.
Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon is an epic space opera inspired by the works of Akira Kurosawa, the Star Wars films and Heavy Metal magazines. Snyder even pitched the idea to Lucasfilm as well as to Warner Bros. Pictures before Netflix gave him a deal.
Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire actually premiered in theaters on December 15, 2023, but came to Netflix just one week later on December 22. Despite the anticipation leading up to its release, the movie received poor reviews from critics and fans. It sits at just a 22% on Rotten Tomatoes with a lackluster 56% Popcornmeter.
Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver was released earlier this year, but like its predecessor, it also received generally negative reviews. It was scored even lower by critics — 16% on Roten Tomatoes — with just a 47% Popcornmeter.
While the films are viewed largely as a disappointment, it's clear that Netflix still believes there is something salvageable with the franchise. Let's hope Blood Line: A Rebel Moon can deliver something worthwhile.
