Dusk Golem is back with another round of leaks for the rumored Resident Evil 9. The reputable gaming insider took to social media to share updated news/rumors about the possible reveal and release date of Resident Evil 9.
According to the insider, Resident Evil 9 should be revealed "pretty soon." While Capcom has yet to even acknowledge the game, the Summer Game Fest is just a few weeks away. Perhaps Capcom will offer some sort of teaser before the big gaming showcase, followed by a more formal reveal in June.
Furthermore, Dusk Golem claims that Resident Evil 9 should be released in January 2025. He admits that it's a target release window that he had "heard previously" and that Capcom is "probably" still aiming for.
The rest of his post goes on to discuss the development side of Resident Evil 9, which supposed began pre-production in early 2018. At the time it was being pitched as a "possible Resident Evil 8," while Resident Evil Village was viewed as more of a spin-off project. As it happened, Resident Evil Village eventually became the eighth main entry in the long-running action-horror franchise.
So now this upcoming game will be Resident Evil 9. Capcom greenlighting multiple Resident Evil projects in batches is nothing new, so the fact this and Resident Evil Village were in development at the same time isn't too surprising. However, Dusk Golem claims that Resident Evil 9 has the "biggest budget and longest dev time of any Resident Evil game to date."
He had previously described this game as the "most ambitious" in the franchise. Back in March, he had reported that Resident Evil 9 could embrace more of an open-world environment. He had explained that Capcom successfully leveraged the RE Engine to create an open-world experience in Dragon's Dogma 2, which can now be utilized for Resident Evil 9.
Resident Evil Village was released in 2021 and served as a sequel to 2017's Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Players take on the role of Ethan Winters as he searches for this kidnapped daughter in a village filled with mutated creatures. The game received generally favorable reviews and was a success both critically and commercially with over 9.3 million units sold as of December 2023.
We obviously don't know much about the plot of Resident Evil 9 or if it will be at all connected to the previously released games. Hopefully, we find out more soon!
