Today marked the launch of a brand new season in Mortal Kombat 1 as well as the arrival of a brand new DLC character, Ermac.
Season 5: Storms, which went live today, features content themed around the arrival of Raiden as the main boss in Invasions mode. The new season will include fresh challenges, story elements, boss battles, and rewards.
Among the rewards are numerous character skins, including Gaffer Johnny Cage, Sudden Overload Scorpion, Voltaic Deity Liu Kang, Electric Soul Liu Kang, Voltaic Warrior General Shao, Charged Frost Sub-Zero, Magnetic Courage Kung Lao, Glistening Mage Rain, Tainted by Evil Raiden. These can all be earned through Invasions and Kombat League.
Today also marks the highly anticipated debut of Ermac, the latest fighter to join the roster as a downloadable character. He's currently playable via the early access period for those who own the Kombat Pack, followed by his wide availability next week on April 23.
Ermac's gameplay was previously revealed last week. His devastating move set includes the ability to teleport, levitate, and utilize a legion of souls to grab, lift, and slam his opponents to the ground.
Ermac is a collection of souls bound together by Quan Chi’s dark magic that are intended to function as a group mind. But that spell is temporarily undone when Ermac is defeated by Mileena and the mind of King Jerrod, deceased ruler of Outworld and one of the souls in Ermac’s collection, takes control and rejoins the royal family, aiding Empress Mileena’s reign. Eventually, the amalgam of souls reestablishes control, and Ermac retreats to Outworld's shadows. No longer Quan Chi's slave, nor bound to the royal family, he must find a future worth fighting for.
Ermac is the fourth of six DLC characters to be released through the Kombat Pack. Omni-Man, Quan Chi, and Peacemaker have already been released with Homelander and Takeda still set to join the roster at a future date.
The Kombat Pack also includes five DLC Kameo Fighters, one of which is also featured in the trailer above. We get our first look at Mavado, who will be available as a standalone purchase in May 2024.
In celebration of the new season of content, players can earn exclusive rewards for Mortal Kombat 1 via Twitch Drops. From April 22029, players can tune in to participating Mortal Kombat 1 content streams live on Twitch and earn rewards such as the he Hot Minute and Packing Heat character palettes for Scorpion, Holy Hell and Killing Time character palettes for Ashrah, and Wasting Disease and Binge Watcher character palettes for Baraka.
