Warner Bros. Games and developer NetherRealm Studios have announced that the T-1000 Terminator will debut in Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns next month. The highly anticipated guest fighter will be available as downloadable content beginning March 18th as part of the early access period for those who own the Khaos Reigns expansion and available for purchase on March 25th for everyone else.
The T-1000 Terminator made its debut in the 1991 action film Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Actor Robert Patrick is reprising the role, lending his voice and likeness to the character for the game.
NetherRealm shared the first teaser trailer for the T-1000, briefly highlighting its deadly moveset inspired by the film. An advanced prototype, the T-1000 — created by the artificial intelligence Skynet — is made of mimetic polyalloy, a liquid metal that allows it to shapeshift into other people or objects that come in content with it.
This serves as the basis for the T-1000's gameplay in Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns. In addition to its skilled hand-to-hand combat, the T-1000 transforms its arm into various deadly bladed weapons. It can even melt into a liquid puddle before jumping up to slash the opponent. Towards the end of the video, we get to see the T-1000's finishing move. I don't want to spoil too much because it's pretty awesome, so be sure to check out the video below.
You may have noticed another character making their debut in the video above. That is Madam Bo, a new DLC Kameo Fighter who can assist during matches with a range of support moves. Madam Bo will also be available for all Khaos Reigns owners on March 18th at no additional cost or via standalone purchased on March 18th.
The T-1000 is the final guest character included in the Khaos Reigns expansion, joining the likes of Ghostface (from the Scream movie franchise), Conan the Barbarian (featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger's likeness), and Mortal Kombat veterans Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot.
It's unclear what's next for Mortal Kombat 1, but series creator Ed Boon has suggested additional DLC could be on the horizon. Although nothing official has been announced yet, Boon previously tweeted, "We are excited to keep trucking forward with future DLC!"
Mortal Kombat 1 has sold over five million copies and remains one of the most-played PlayStation 5 games. Warner Bros. Games has previously praised Mortal Kombat as being one of its most "strong and profitable" game franchises. Following the shutdown of MultiVersus, the publisher reiterated that Mortal Kombat will be one of the franchises that it continues to focus on moving forward. This could mean more DLC for Mortal Kombat 1 or perhaps work on the next full-fledged installment.
