Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 revitalised the long-running first-person-shooter franchise with the exciting addition of a battle-royale mode. Blackout, like almost every battle-royale, sees players pit against one another amid a constantly shrinking arena - last man standing wins.

Activision and Treyarch have now announced (@CallofDuty) that the mode will be free-to-play for a limited time across all platforms of which the game is available on. To be clear this isn't a free trial of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4; it only regards the Blackout battle-royale mode and not Zombies nor Multiplayer.

The free trial will run for a week from January 17th to the 24th (precise beginning and end times have not been revealed yet). The event even got its own trailer - you can check that out below:

Interestingly, an analyst recently made known his prediction that the Blackout mode would wholly go free-to-play this year (alongside Blizzard's first-person-shooter Overwatch), perhaps these are the first steps towards that - you can find out more on that here.

What do you think of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Blackout mode going free-to-play for a week?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
