Destiny 2's next expansion,
Shadowkeep, and its new free-to-play version,
New Light, have been delayed. Originally due out on September 17, Bungie confirmed the release for them has been pushed back to October 1.
Bungie didn't get into too many specifics, but did say that the expansion would "benefit from a bit more timein the over."
We didn't make this decision lightly. We know for some of you (us too), Destiny releases are events where you take time off of work or develop a sudden sickness that keeps you from school or work (we get it, a bunch of our team takes some time off to go on their own Destiny Jacket Quest). We're sorry for screwing up your plans and we wanted to share this information as quickly as we could.
Bungie's Luke Smith also confirmed that he's hoping to post a State of the game sometime next week, which will outline changes they're making to the game in
Shadowkeep based on what they've learned from the past six months.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep will see players return to the moon where they Eris has discovered a hidden darkness beneath the surface. The expansion promises new areas to explore, including a Hive castle and Fallen base.
New Nightmares have emerged from the shadows of our forgotten Moon. Called forth by haunting visions from her tormented past, Eris Morn has returned and unleashed something that once slumbered beneath the lunar surface – a long dormant power even she cannot control.
Destiny 2: Shadowkeep will now release on October 1.
