Overwatch 2 was announced back at the very beginning of November last year. Naturally, it's a sequel to the popular online multiplayer competitive shooter, Overwatch, which launched in 2016. Each member of a team of six players chooses from thirty-two unique playable heroes. Most, if not all, of these characters will return in the sequel.
What with the next console generation kicking off in less than a month's time; you might be wondering when to expect Overwatch 2. Well, a reputable streamer and leaker by the name of Metro recently revealed what they know.
According to @Metro_OW, Overwatch 2 is expected to launch next year, specifically in February. This is based on rumors that the next Overwatch League season has been shifted to April, meaning that it's likely Overwatch 2 will have already debuted by then. What's more, BlizzCon 2021 takes place in February.
Therefore, it's not a stretch to believe that the online multiplayer shooter sequel will launch concurrently with the gaming event. Of course, this is all assuming the COVID-19 pandemic doesn't cause yet another fuss. Of course, it's ever likely that this information isn't accurate so don't place too much stock in it.
"Rumors of the next Overwatch League season being delayed until April to make sure they can launch with Overwatch 2 suggest that the expected beta or even full release of the game around Blizzcon in February 2021 is very likely," said Metro in a tweet which you can check out for yourself below.
