As Starfield celebrates its one-year anniversary today Bethesda took the time to thank fans who have played the game, while highlighting some of the new content coming in the upcoming Shattered Space expansion.

"Thank you to the millions of players who have made the Settled Systems their home and helped make this an incredible first year for Starfield," Bethesda wrote on Twitter/X.

Then the developer went on to share some things fans can expect when Shattered Space launches on this month. The new content includes new locations to discover, new grenades to craft, formidable new enemies, and more.

More specifically, Bethesda noted that there are over 50 new locations to discover and explore across Va'ruun'kai. Located in an undisclosed start system, Va'ruun'kai is the homeworld of House Va'ruun and its capital city of Dazra. In Shattered Space, players will journey to Va'Ruun'kai after receiving a distress signal from a derelict starstation.

The tweet goes on to tease that new grenades will be crafted from organic material that you gather, "and it's gross." And while we don't have details, Bethesda teases "formidable new enemies" such as the Redeemed and Vortex Horrors.

"You haven't seen the last of Zealots, Spacers, or the Crimson Fleet..." the developer added. "As you explore the planet be on the lookout for those taking advantage of the situation."

The Va'ruun Zealots, Spacers and Crimson Fleet are, of course, are factions you come across throughout the Settled Systems of the main game. The Zealots are fanatical and hostile remnants of House Va'ruun that stayed behind in the settled systems as the rest of House Va'ruun left.

Starfield received generally positive reviews upon release. The game was praised for its expansive world and creative mission design, though the story left many feeling unfulfilled. Hopefully, Bethesda can continue to build on the world and lore of Starfield with Shattered Space.

The official description reads:

A mysterious power stirs in the city of Dazra on House Va’Ruun’s hidden homeworld. Investigate a frightening cosmic threat, explore a new planet, and find unique weapons, spacesuits, and gear in this all-new adventure.

When a distress signal from a derelict starstation sparks a journey to Va’Ruun’kai, the veil of secrecy surrounding the worshippers of a deity known as “The Great Serpent” is finally lifted. Immerse yourself in the dark and complex world of House Va’Ruun, as you navigate a tense political landscape, uncover the history of the Va’Ruun people and help decide the fate of the faction in the wake of a cataclysmic event.

Starfield's Shattered Space expansion is scheduled to launch on September 30, 2024.
