Considering that Obsidian Entertainment has lately been focusing on more niche projects (like
Pillars of Eternity and
Tyranny), the fact that the makers of one of the best
Fallout games of all time (and no, it's not
76) are finally retuning to big-budget development makes
The Outer Worlds even more intriguing. While we're still not sure when that RPG releases, we've got a brand-new reason to talk about the title.
Obsidian showcased their new extravaganza during this year's PAX East in Boston, giving the audience a chance to take a closer look at over 20 minutes of uncut gameplay footage from
The Outer Worlds. Those who didn't attend the event can also check out the video, by courtesy of YouTuber MrRedRivers.
In
TOW, you take on the role of a daredevil who finds themselves in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy Halcyon, the furthest colony from Earth located at the edge of the galaxy.
Although the footage doesn't focus on exploration or traversing the planet, it does put the spotlight on
TOW's shooting mechanics and dialogue wheel. Be sure to learn more
The Outer Worlds down below:
In The Outer Worlds, you awake from hibernation on a colonist ship that was lost in transit to Halcyon, the furthest colony from Earth located at the edge of the galaxy, only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy it. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.
The Outer Worlds will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019.
