Following its limited launch in select Asian markets last year, Persona5: The Phantom X is headed West. Atlus and SEGA announced today that the turn-based RPG will launch on PC and mobile on June 26, 2025.
Set in a mysterious Tokyo, players embark on an adventure as the new protagonist designed by Atlus Persona series character designer Shigenori Soejima. The unnamed protagonist is a second-year student at the private high school Kokatsu Academy, and awakened his powers as a Persona-user to take back the desires being stolen from the world.
He's currently living in Zoshigaya, Tokyo while his parents are off on a long-term trip abroad. A student by day and a Phantom Thief by night, he's "plagued by msterious visions of a ruinous future."
After awakening from a nightmare, the protagonist is thrust into a changed world drained of hope... And the new faces he encounters are no less strange: an eloquent owl named Lufel, a long-nosed man and a beauty donned in blue.
As he navigates the mysterious realms of the Metaverse and the Velvet Room, and grapples with ruinous visions that threaten his everyday life, he must discover what there is to take from this new world—and all in true Phantom Thief style.
The franchise's signature blend of social simulation and dungeon crawling returns as you must manage student life during the day and explore the shadows at night. Instead of the Calendar system, both activities now require energy that replenishes over time, or is restored using currency.
Yes, Persona5: The Phantom X is technically free-to-play, but like other games of this nature, there are mechanics that limit the speed at which you can progress unless you spend money.
During the day, players will experience life as a student, building up life experience through part-time jobs and extracurricular clubs. From movie theaters and batting cages to a part-time job, you can go where you want and do as you please, meeting people along the way. As you meet and help people who have lost their own desires, you can support them and build relationships through Synergy. By re-energizing these people and building a strong bond, they will lend their strength to the protagonist in various ways.
Persona5: The Phantom X will feature a new colorful cast of interesting character, including some familiar faces. Fan-favorites from the original Persona 5 such as Joker will be available in special contracts.
At night, they'll venture into the shadows to strengthen Personas, exploring side dungeons and battling. Players can grind Mementos, a procedural generated dungeon within the Metaverse and home to Palaces, fortresses manifested from others' warped desires. Palaces are more narrative-driven, tied to a specific antagonist. Players must infiltrate these Plalaces and reform these individuals by stealing their "Treasures."
Persona5: The Phantom X will officially release on Thursday, June 26th. It will be available on iOS, Android, and PC (Steam).
Pre-registration for the game is already available with milestones that will unlock special bonuses for players upon launch. So far two of the milestones have been cleared, unlocked 10 free contract draws and five free weapon draws. The next milestone, which comes at 200,000 pre-registrations will unlock a free Outfit for the main protagonist.
