Nintendo released a special Direct presentation earlier today, which focused entirely on the 35th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. series. During the presentation, Nintendo revealed a bunch of news in regards to upcoming Super Mario Bros. games and products, so fans of the heroic plumber have been having quite the field day.
What is likely one of the most surprising announcements, and one that fans the most excited for, is that Nintendo revealed a brand-new Game & Watch handheld console that will include complete versions of the original Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels.
The Game & Watch was an electronic handheld device that preceded the Game Boy. In fact, its creator was Gunpei Yokoi, who was also the man who came up with the idea of the original Game Boy, so there are some similarities in the concept itself.
Unlike the original Game & Watch handheld, however, the Super Mario 35th Anniversary Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. console will include a D-pad, for more precise control, as well as the traditional A and B buttons that will allow players to jump and run in the games.
In classic Game & Watch fashion, this Super Mario Bros. themed Game & Watch will also include a special version of Ball that will feature Mario instead of Mr. Game & Watch, as well as a classic Super Mario Bros. themed clock with up to 35 touches.
Nintendo has yet to reveal the price of the Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. handheld, but we do know that this will likely be revealed soon, since the console itself is scheduled to arrive in stores on Wendesday the 11th of November.
