Nintendo has just become the best-selling hardware manufacturer with a very impressive 752.1 million consoles sold since 1985; when the original Nintendo Entertainment System — or Famicom, as known in Japan — was released.
According to their quarterly report ending on the 30th of September, these over 750 million units in hardware sales amount to both video game home consoles and handheld systems; with 420.67 million sales in handhelds and 322.54 million in home console sales.
The Nintendo DS has been crowned the best-selling Nintendo console, with 154.02 million units sold, followed closely by the Game Boy with 118.69 million units sold, and the Wii with an equally impressive 101.63 million in console sales.
Far from being a surprise, the Nintendo Wii U is the console that has sold worst, with only 13.56 million units sold. What's interesting is that the results don't even include the Virtual Boy; probably for the best, keeping in mind that this console is considered to be one of the biggest flops in video game history.
