After the failure that was the Wii U, people were a bit skeptic about the Nintendo Switch selling well. As of March of this year, the handheld hybrid console has become one of the best-selling consoles in the market, as well as one of Nintendo's best-selling consoles.
NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella has recently revealed that the Nintendo Switch has set a new all-time record for hardware unit sales in the month of March. In fact, according to Piscatella's study, Nintendo's console sales more than doubled when compared to last year's month of March; growing up to a 63% in hardware spending.
What's even more interesting is that this is the first time a Nintendo console generates the highest first quarter unit sales since the Nintendo DS in March of 2010 — which is no small feat if we consider that the DS is Nintendo's best-selling console of all time; to date, at least.
The Nintendo Switch still has the potential to become one of the Japanese company's best-selling consoles of all time, and their exclusives are definitely playing a big role in this. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the most recently released exclusive, and it is already setting all kinds of sales records.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 and Metroid Prime 4 have already been confirmed to be in development, and both are console-selling titles as well — so there's a pretty good chance that we'll see both during this year's E3 presentation, and those will definitely help boost Nintendo Switch sales.
