The Nintendo Switch released in March of 2017 — meaning that it's almost two years old. Long have fans expected Nintendo to announce a more powerful and updated iteration of the versatile console. However, Nintendo did the very opposite of that with the reveal of the Nintendo Switch Lite — a less powerful version of the Switch that can't be docked and released in September 2019.
Despite recently releasing a new version of the Nintendo Switch, an industry analyst is confident that Nintendo will do it again this year — and, this time around, it will be the long-awaited more powerful and updated version.
CEO of Tokyo-based game industry consultancy Kantan Games; Serkan Toto told
GamesIndustry.biz that he believes with absolute certainty that Nintendo will release the long-rumoured
"Switch Pro" console within the coming year.
"There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Nintendo will launch a 'Switch Pro' in 2020, My guess is at $399," Toto told the site.
"More specifically, I predict 4K support, bigger cartridge sizes, and of course beefed-up components." That's not all Toto had to say; the CEO also mentioned when he believes the system will see the light of day.
"I also think the device will launch after the summer holidays to counter the roll-out of the PS5 and next-gen Xbox later in the year - along with a first-party, system-seller game."
What are the odds of Toto being correct? Well, he's certainly a big name in the analyst business and previously predicted that Nintendo would release a portable-only version of the Switch — that turning out to be the Nintendo Switch Lite.
