Last week, Bertil Hörberg — the man behind the acclaimed Gunman Clive video game series — unveiled Mechstermination Force, his latest action game inspired by Contra and Shadow of the Colossus.

One thing that many people have noticed, is that Hörberg's games have only come out for Nintendo consoles(with the exception of the Gunman Clive games that started off as games for mobile devices), and he actually has a pretty good reason for this.

In a recent interview with Dual Shockers, Hörberg revealed that Nintendo has been very supportive and he always considered that the Nintendo 3DS was a good platform to develop games for; especially since it is a handheld console and he feels it fits perfect with the nature of the mobile games he developed.

"Being a small mobile game from the start I felt that the 3DS was a natural step…as it found success there and I got a good working relationship with Nintendo, the Wii U version seemed like a good next step. I was considering doing PS4 port [of Gunman Clive HD Collection] but just never got around to it. I've also always had a soft spot for Nintendo and their handhelds in particular, but I try not to let that influence my business decisions too much", explained Hörberg when asked about the Nintendo console exclusivity of his games.

Bertil continued by saying that the good relationship with Nintendo made him consider the Nintendo Switch as the platform he wanted to develop Mechstermination Force for, stating that "the Switch was always the obvious choice, and I really like the system as well."

When asked whether Mechstermination Force would see other platforms or not, Hörberg revealed that this may not be the case, at least not any time soon.

"I don’t have the capacity for a multi-platform launch, but there is nothing stopping me from releasing on other platforms later, and it’s very likely that I will eventually. I want to start working on something different right away, and given that the game uses a 100% custom engine and incredibly messy code, hiring someone else to do the porting might be tricky, or at least a lot less efficient than doing it myself."

It seems that Mechstermination Force will remain a Nintendo Switch console exclusive title for now, but Bertil Hörberg doesn't seem to want to rule out other platforms just yet. Maybe if the game does well, he'll start thinking about messing with those codes and try and figure out a way to port his games properly.

Join the Mechstermination Force and save the world from the gigantic MegaMechs! Battle against massive bosses, jump and climb onto them to find their weak spots and blow them to kingdom come in this action packed platforming boss rush, from the creator of the Gunman Clive series.

Mechstermination Force still doesn't have an official release date.
