Super Mario Odyssey was one of the titles shown during the Nintendo Switch reveal back in October of 2016. While Nintendo only showed a few seconds of footage, it was enough for fans of the iconic plumber to get excited for the game; especially because they hadn't been given a proper
Super Mario 3D title since
Super Mario Galaxy 2 released in 2010.
Although the game was not a launch title for the Nintendo Switch,
Super Mario Odyssey had no problem becoming one of the best games on Nintendo's new handheld hybrid console; to the point it was even nominated as Game of the Year for The Game Awards, losing out to Nintendo's very onw
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Needless to say,
Super Mario Odyssey is—simply put—one of the best titles on the Nintendo Switch library, and today we have new information that reveals that the game has managed to sell 500 thousand units in the United Kingdom; becoming the second title on the Nintendo Switch to sell half a million copies. The news comes from GamesIndustry.biz Publisher Christopher Dring, who also revealed that this is the second title to sell over a million copies on the Switch in the UK.
The other title that managed to sell a similar amount was
Mario Kart 8: Deluxe, which is an enhanced port of the original
Mario Kart 8 released for the Nintendo Wii U in 2014. It is also worth mentioning that the number of sales for
Super Mario Odyssey in the UK only include physical sales.
Use amazing new abilities—like the power to capture and control objects, animals, and enemies—to collect Power Moons so you can power up the Odyssey airship and save Princess Peach from Bowser's wedding plans!
Super Mario Odyssey is currently available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
