A new Paper Mario game from Nintendo has been rumoured for quite a while now, and today The Big N has confirmed them all by announcing Paper Mario: The Origami King — which seems to bring the long-running role-playing series back to its roots.
First things first, Paper Mario: The Origami King is being developed as a Nintendo Switch exclusive, and will be launching on the 17th of July — which is probably the most surprising part of the announcement — so fans of the series will only have to wait for a couple of months to finally play a new entry in this beloved series.
The announcement trailer for the game does give us a pretty good idea of what the game will look like. Unsurprisingly, Paper Mario: The Origami King looks as stunning and charming as ever, but the combat is what most players are curious about, since the latest entries in the series have been quite disappointing in this regard.
According to the official website for the game, combat in Paper Mario: The Origami King will see players lining up scattered enemies so they can land an effective blow on them at once. In order to do this, they will be moving some sort of a wheel-like arena.
It seems that players will no longer need stickers or cards — unlike the divisive Paper Mario: Sticker Star and Paper Mario: Color Splash games — and will instead select classic attacks like the jump and hammer in order to fight their opponents, which should make fans of the series very excited.
Digital pre-orders for Paper Mario: The Origami King are currently available via Nintendo's official website for the game. If you're a hardcore fan of the series, it is best for you to wait until more details about the combat are revealed before pre-ordering — although you probably already know this by now.
Nintendo will more than likely be revealing more information about the game in the coming weeks. Until then, be sure to watch the announcement trailer for Paper Mario: The Origami King down below!
