Announced in February of this year, Tetris 99 is a very interesting title that mixes the classic tile-matching gameplay of the original Tetris with some Battle Royale elements, and what's even more surprising is the fact that it works like a charm.

When Tetris 99 released, it was a game that was exclusive for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers; just recently becoming available for players to purchase and download digitally from the eShop via the Big Block DLC — which allowed players to play Tetris 99 offline.

Just recently, Nintendo announced that Tetris 99 will be getting a physical release that is set to hit store shelves on the 6th of September. The physical release will be including all of the DLC and a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online subscription, retalining for $29.99.

Nintendo also announced that two offline local multiplayer modes will be added to the Big Block DLC, which will allow players to battle in up to 8-player matches with their friends in Local Arena Mode, while two players can engange in a 2-players Share battle using each one Joy-Con.

Release dates for these new game modes has not been revealed, however, but they are both expected to become available at some point later this year.

99 players…but only one will remain! TETRIS® 99 is the iconic puzzle game as you’ve never seen it before. Can you pick the right strategy to best 98 other players online* – all at the same time?!

Tetris 99 is currently available for the Nintendo Switch.
