One of the best news that Nintendo could've given fans of Monolithsoft's Xeno series was that an enhanced version of the critically acclaimed Xenoblade Chronicles was being re-released for the Nintendo Switch in the form of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition.

The original Xenoblade Chronicles was released for the Nintendo Wii and was eventually ported to the New Nintendo 3DS, but the port was, for obvious reasons, quite the step backwards in terms of graphics and overall performance; one of the many reasons why fans are so excited for the upcoming title.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition is not only a more polished version of the Wii title, as it will also be featuring a brand-new episode that serves as an epilogue to the story — one that will not require players to complete the story in order, by the way — further expanding the game's lore.

If there is one thing that the original Xenoblade Chronicles was heavily praised for was its breathtaking locations, which gave the game a sense of scale like few others out there. This was also successfully replicated in Xenoblade Chronicles X for the Wii U, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for the Nintendo Switch.

Just recently, the Japanese website for Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition has shared quite the handful of in-game screenshots that show off those breathtaking landscapes the original game was known for — albeit in high definition — making us wish the game was already here so we could explore them at leisure. Don't forget to open these screenshots in a different tab to fully appreciate them.

MONOLITHSOFT’s epic Xenoblade Chronicles game, which originally launched in 2012 on the Wii system, is destined to be reborn on Nintendo Switch as Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. The game, which chronicles the adventures of Shulk and Fiora, is scheduled to launch for Nintendo Switch in 2020.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition will release exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on the 29th of May.
